School Choir

North Ealing Primary School

On September 6th, 2021, we held our first full school assembly for over 18 months! As part of this, we included an ‘old favourite’ song about Sustainability not knowing if the pupils would remember it or even ‘feel’ like singing! They did!

Singing is a regular part of our teaching model and, this year, all teachers have access to the amazing ‘Sing Up’ site with hundreds of songs on all topics and themes, in all musical styles and all sorted by age-suitability. We are hoping to quickly blossom, once again, as a ‘school that sings’!

The School Choir meets on Wednesdays from 3:25-3:55 and all in Years 3-6 are welcome. Years 6, additionally, have the option of joining a Chamber Choir.

All pupils are welcome if THEY wish to enjoy an extra challenge.

They are asked to sign up in class and then ask YOU to respond on school comms when the notification arrives. We use this same method with other music groups so that every singer/player WANTS to be there.

Due to safeguarding considerations, we maintain a register of attendance. If a child cannot attend due to illness/ appointments etc we do expect that you notify us as early as possible.

Once we have started, we will post backing tracks and lyrics here for use at home – but do look at the Home School Choir tab in the meantime!

Regards, Nic Mehew (Music Lead)

Someone you loved (Lyrics)

I’m going under and this time I fear there’s no one to save me.
This all or nothing really got a way of driving me crazy.
I need somebody to heal,
Somebody to know,
Somebody to have,
Somebody to hold.
It’s easy to say,
But it’s never the same,
I guess I kinda liked the way you numbed all the pain.

Now the day bleeds
Into nightfall,
And you’re not here
To get me through it all.
I let my guard down
And then you pulled the rug.
I was getting kinda used to being someone you loved.

I’m going under and this time I fear there’s no one to turn to.
This all or nothing way of loving got me sleeping without you.
Now I need somebody to know,
Somebody to heal,
Somebody to have,
Just to know how it feels.
It’s easy to say,
But it’s never the same,
I guess I kinda liked the way you helped me escape.

Now the day bleeds
Into nightfall,
And you’re not here
To get me through it all.
I let my guard down
And then you pulled the rug.
I was getting kinda used to being someone you loved.
And I tend to close my eyes when it hurts sometimes,
I fall into your arms.
I’ll be safe in your sound ‘til I come back around.

For now the day bleeds
Into nightfall,
And you’re not here
To get me through it all.
I let my guard down
And then you pulled the rug.
I was getting kinda used to being someone you loved.

But now the day bleeds
Into nightfall,
And you’re not here
To get me through it all.
I let my guard down
And then you pulled the rug.
I was getting kinda used to being someone you loved.

I let my guard down
And then you pulled the rug.
I was getting kinda used to being someone you loved.

Born to Be Wild (Lyrics)

Get your motor runnin’,
Head out on the highway.
Lookin’ for adventure,
And whatever comes our way.
Yeah darlin’ go and make it happen,
Take the world in a love embrace.
Fire all of your guns at once and
Explode into space.

I like smoke and lightnin’,
Heavy metal thunder.
Racin’ with the wind,
And the feeling that I’m under.
Yeah darlin’ go and make it happen,
Take the world in a love embrace.
Fire all of your guns at once and
Explode into space.

Like a true nature’s child,
We were born, born to be wild.
We can climb so high,
I never wanna die.

Born to be wild,
Born to be wild.

[Instrumental]

Get your motor runnin’,
Head out on the highway.
Lookin’ for adventure,
And whatever comes our way.
Yeah darlin’ go make it happen,
Take the world in a love embrace.
Fire all of your guns at once and
Explode into space.

Like a true nature’s child
We were born, born to be wild.
We can climb so high,
I never wanna die.

Born to be wild,
Born to be wild.

Refuge Lyrics

There’s always someone standing on their own outside the crowd
Who looks bewildered and confused.
They try to make some sense of all the jostling and the jokes
But still they don’t look that amused.

What place, what life, what did they leave behind?
What sights, what sounds, what thoughts are on their mind?

I’ve noticed that your accent has an unfamiliar sound;
Sometimes it seems you hate us all.
In silence you retreat into a closed and private world
Behind your own protective wall.

What crimes, what hurt, what wars have you survived?
What hopes, what dreams were left when you arrived?

Who’ll be your refuge, your shelter, your fortress?
Who’ll be your champion?
Who’ll be your refuge, your pilot, your brother,
Your northern star?

Who will be your second sight;
The light that guides your way at night?
Don’t be down-hearted.
I’ll be your refuge, I’ll be your refuge.

There’s nothing wrong with being shy and ev’rybody knows
That fools speak louder than the rest.
(That fools speak louder than the rest.)

Let no one tell you how to think or what is right or true
You are not weak or second best.
(You are not weak or second best.)

What crimes, what hurt, what wars have you survived?
What hopes, what dreams were left when you arrived?
(What crimes, what hurt, what wars have you survived?
What hopes, what dreams were left when you arrived?)

I’ll be your refuge, your shelter, your fortress,
I’ll be your champion.
I’ll be your refuge, your pilot, your brother,
Your northern star.

I will be your second sight;
The light that guides your way at night.
Don’t be down-hearted.
I’ll be your refuge, I’ll be your refuge,
I’ll be your refuge, I’ll be your refuge,
I’ll be your refuge.
(I’ll be your refuge, I’ll be your refuge,
I’ll be your refuge, I’ll be your refuge,
I’ll be your refuge.)

Believe Lyrics

When I look up to the stars,
There’s a burning deep inside me
And I feel a power growing in my soul.
There is something I can sense,
Deep within a dream to guide me,
And I know that I am reaching for my goal.

I can do anything at all,
I can climb the highest mountain,
I can feel the ocean calling wild and free.
I can be anything I want,
With this hope to drive me onward,
If I can just believe in me.

When the skies are dark and grey,
We still know the sun is shining:
Though it’s out of sight, its light is glowing still.
And as long as I believe,
There is nothing I can’t wish for;
Not a dream that I’m unable to fulfill.

(Oo oo oo oo)

I can do anything at all,
I can climb the highest mountain,
I can feel the ocean calling wild and free.
I can be anything I want,
With this hope to drive me onward,
If I can just believe in me.

(Ah ah ah,
If I can just believe in me.)

And whatever it takes I’ll find it somehow;
Whatever it needs I’ll show I’m strong.
Whatever it takes I’ll make it happen:
Finding out where I belong.

(I’ll find it somehow.
I’ll show I’m strong, I’ll show I’m strong.
I’ll make it happen:
Finding out where I belong.)

While the world is spinning round,
I can sometimes lose direction
And I know how hard it is to find my way.
But with friends around to care,
There is nothing I can’t handle,
And I’ll face the future treasuring each day.

(Oo oo oo oo)

I can do anything at all,
I can climb the highest mountain,
I can feel the ocean calling wild and free.
I can be anything I want,
With this hope to drive me onward,
If I can just believe in me.

(Ah ah ah,
If I can just believe in me.)

Ain’t Gonna… Lyrics

(Melody 1)
Ain’t gonna let nobody turn me around,
Turn me around, turn me around.
Ain’t gonna let nobody turn me around,
Keep on walkin’, keep on talkin’,
Walkin’ to the freedom land.

(Melody 2)
Ain’t gonna let nobody turn me,
Ain’t gonna let nobody turn me,
Ain’t gonna let nobody turn me,
Keep on walkin’, keep on talkin’, yeah.

(Melody 3)
Ain’t gonna let nobody,
Ain’t gonna let no, no, nobody.

Medley Lyrics

Swing low, sweet chariot
Swing low, sweet chariot,
Coming for to carry me home,
Swing low, sweet chariot,
Coming for to carry me home.

When the saints go marching in
Oh, when the saints, go marching in,
Oh, when the saints, go marching in,
I wanna be in that number,
Oh when the saints go marching in.

I’m gonna sing
I’m gonna sing, sing, sing,
I’m gonna dance, dance, dance,
I’m gonna sing. I’m gonna dance, allelu!
When the gates are open wide
I’ll be standing by your side,
I’m gonna sing, I’m gonna dance, allelu!

I Wish I Knew How Lyrics

I wish I knew how it would feel to be free.
I wish I could break all the chains holding me.
I wish I could say all the things that I should say
Say ‘em loud, say ‘em clear
For the whole round world to hear.

I wish I could share all the love that’s in my heart.
Remove all the bars that keep us apart.
I wish you could know what it means to be me,
Then you’d see, and agree
That ev’ry man should be free.

I wish I could give like I’m longing to give.
I wish I could live like I’m longing to live.
I wish I could do all the things that I can do
And tho’ I’m way overdue
I’d be starting anew.

Well I wish I could be like a bird in the sky.
How sweet it would be if I found I could fly.
Oh I’d soar to the sun and look down at the sea,
Then I’d sing ‘cos I know
How it feels to be free.

Then I’d sing ‘cos I know
How it feels to be free.

Yes I’d sing ‘cos I know
How it feels to be free!

Make Your Own Kind of Music Lyrics

Nobody can tell ya,
there’s only one song worth singing.
They may try and sell ya,
cos it hangs them up to see someone like you.

But you’ve gotta make your own kind of music,
sing your own special song.
Make your own kind of music,
even if nobody else sings along.

You’re gonna be nowhere,
the loneliest kind of lonely.
It may be rough going:
just to do your thing’s the hardest thing to do.

But you’ve gotta make your own kind of music,
sing your own special song.
Make your own kind of music,
even if nobody else sings along.

So if you cannot take my hand,
and if you must be going, I will understand.

You’ve gotta make your own kind of music,
sing your own special song.
Make your own kind of music,
even if nobody else sings along.

(sing last chorus three times)
You’ve gotta sing!
