Reception

Welcome to Reception

Our Reception classes at NEPS welcome 90 families from across our community, and we love bringing everyone together on a shared learning journey. No matter what Early Years experience the children have had before joining us, we start from their interests and build learning around what inspires them.

Our wonderful and experienced Early Years team works closely together to create an environment where children learn through play, explore through our continuous provision, and enjoy daily enhancements that spark curiosity and deepen understanding. Alongside this, children take part in well-structured Phonics sessions (using Read Write Inc.) and Maths Mastery teaching (through Power Maths), giving them the skills and confidence they need as they grow.

Most importantly, we want every child to leave Reception with a love of learning and a strong sense of belonging. When they move into Year 1, they are not only ready but excited to continue their learning journey.

Home Learning

We set weekly homework for Reception children in Phonics, Maths, and an activity in their WOW book. Please see Google Classroom for our weekly newsletter with further details.

Maths:
Maths home learning challenges are set every Friday through Doodle and should be completed by the following Thursday.

Phonics:
Phonics homework is sent home every Friday in your child’s Phonics folder, along with appropriate reading books for the week. Please return the folder every Thursday.

WOW Book:
Each week, the children will be asked to complete a page in their WOW book. Please check the weekly newsletter for ideas. WOW books must be returned to school every Wednesday.

Reading Books:
Your child will be provided with individual reading materials, and books are changed on their allocated reading day.
