Our Mission:
To Inspire and nurture all our children to become aspirational, lifelong learners through an inclusive, ambitious and engaging curriculum.
Introduction:
To fulfil our mission, we believe that relationships are an integral part of a child’s journey at North Ealing Primary school (NEPS). It is through these relationships that the children in our care learn to feel safe, feel a sense of belonging, understand themselves and others and the world around them.
We recognise that relationships have a direct bearing on children’s capacity to succeed in school and by forming trusted relationships with their peers and adults around them, they can learn and grow, accept their individual strengths and areas for development, and understand their strong emotions.
At NEPS, adults strive to develop positive relationships with children that provide a sense of safety, trust, belonging and being listened to. Through these relationships our children will develop their ability to regulate their feelings and behaviours, develop their understanding of social situations and develop healthy and positive feelings about themselves and their abilities.
As research suggests, behaviour often reflects an unmet human need which can be met through relational connection (Rutledge 2011 on Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs) At NEPs we think about behaviour in this way so that it helps us to understand challenging or distressed behaviour as a form of communication. Through this relational-based behaviour policy we aim to create an environment in which effective teaching and learning can take place. The crucial element of building and sustaining this learning climate is through positive, caring and respectful relationships between adults and children. Our values are strong, expectations are high and boundaries are clear.
