Free Girls Chess Starter Tournament & Training class

For girls new to tournament chess or without an English Chess Federation rating

Open to UK girls in Primary or Secondary Schools

There are limited places available, so do enter as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. Places are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.


Information for parents

The starter girls’ event and Training class are completely free to enter.

The Training class will be 11.30 – 12.15 pm.

Venue: Ellen Wilkinson School, Queen’s Dr, London W3 0HW

Directions

Each game will use a chess clock with 15 minutes per player per game.

5 rounds chess tournament

Arrival: 12.30 – 1 pm

Round 1: 1.15 pm

Round 2: 1.55 pm

Round 3: 2.35 pm

Round 4: 3.15 pm

Round 5: 3.55 pm

This event is designed as a fun and gentle way to introduce girls to tournament chess.

Girls will be required to sign up for English Chess Federation (ECF) Membership. Junior Silver is free for those who have never had it before.

Directions

Travelling by Car
There is no parking on the school site, please arrive by bike or public transport where possible. There might be parking on roads nearby to the school, subject to restrictions.

Travelling by Tube
The school is very accessible by London Underground, North Ealing (Piccadilly Line) or West Acton (Central Line) are just a few minutes walk away.

She Plays To Win is a UK Girls Chess Project led by England Women’s Coach IM Lorin D’Costa, to try and encourage more girls to participate and learn chess in a fun environment.

This is open to all girls in primary, secondary or university (under 28) regardless of chess level or experience. We even have a beginner’s group.
